Google has unveiled its annual Zeitgeist list, revealing the most searched-for people, places and things of 2012. Whitney Houston's name tops Google's list of overall search trends -- not just in the U.S., but across the world. Web users across the planet searched her name more over the past year than Korean star PSY's "Gangnam Style," which comes in at #2 in the world and Hurricane Sandy, at #3.
In the U.S., Whitney's passing is #1 on the Deaths of 2012 list, with Etta James' death at #3.
Google also names Whitney the most-searched individual on its people list, one spot above the NBA's Jeremy Lin. The people ranking also includes the late actor Michael Clarke Duncan, British royal Kate Middleton and former vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan. Donna Summer shows up at #10 on the global people list.
The list of most popular song searches puts French Montana's "Pop That" at #9 and Kanye West's "Mercy" at #10. Kanye's hit Cruel Summer track also comes in at #2 on the most popular song lyric searches list. Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" lyrics are #5 and Tyga's "Rack City" lyrics are #6, followed by Drake's "The Motto" lyrics at #7.
As for the biggest image trends worldwide, Google's Zeitgeist list includes Rihanna and Nicki in that category. Rih's pics come in as the fifth most-searched on the planet, while Nicki's are tenth on the list.
