Paul Simon Defends Art Garfunkel After "This Is 40" Diss
Credit: Mark SeligerJudd Apatow's latest comedy, This Is 40, features a scene in which lead actor Paul Rudd's character complains to his wife, portrayed by Leslie Mann, "You've made me Garfunkel," apparently implying that he feels like the less significant one in the marriage. Well, Paul Simon apparently has seen the movie and has taken offense to the diss of his old musical partner, Art Garfunkel.
Simon recently posted a message on his official website that reads, "Just saw This Is 40. Funny. But joke about Art Garfunkel was not. He was the great singer of [Simon & Garfunkel] and a gifted record producer. Nothing laughable about his talent."
Earlier this year, Garfunkel released a two-CD set titled The Singer that features songs he personally chose from throughout his career, both with Simon and as a solo artist. Over the last few years, Art has been sidelined from performing by a condition called vocal paresis that has made it difficult for him to sing.
