Blow out the candles, Jay-Z! Hov turned 43 Tuesday, and even though he rarely tweets, everyone from fans to peers like Rev. Run and Bun B wished the hip-hop heavyweight a "Happy Birthday" via Twitter.
"Happy birthday @S_C_ I know that you celebrate your born day with a heavy heart. I know how much love you had for Pimp, and his love for u," wrote Bun B, who acknowledged the Dec. 4, 2007 death of his UGK partner, Pimp C. Together with the duo, Jay-Z established one of his biggest hits, the chart-topping track, "Big Pimpin'."
Even 16 years after his Reasonable Doubt debut, Jay has plenty to celebrate. At age 42, he pulled off one of the year's biggest tours with his Watch the Throne partner, Kanye West. And in the midst of that worldwide trip, Jay and his wife, Beyonce, welcomed their daughter, Blue Ivy, into the world.
Top that off with the summer's Budweiser Made in America Festival, and there's still more on Jay's list of accomplishments this year. As a minority shareholder in the Nets, Hova also gets bragging rights for helping bring the team to the Barclays Center, in his hometown, Brooklyn.
To welcome the Nets to their new arena, Jay kicked off a string of concerts at the Barclays Center in September. A new mini-doc on his Life + Times website chronicles preparation for the special shows.
