Cyndi Lauper Steps Out with New Musical "Kinky Boots"

Facebook.com/OfficialCyndiLauperCyndi Lauper is forging a new path as a theater composer.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Grammy-winning singer will provide the music and lyrics to a new musical called Kinky Boots.  The production, based on the 2005 movie of the same name, is about a man in Northern England who saves his late father's shoe factory thanks to some help from a drag queen.  The musical, which boasts a book by Harvey Fierstein of La Cage aux Folles fame, will open in October at Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre before it heads to Broadway next season.

Cyndi seems pretty excited about the production.  In a recent tweet, she wrote, "The presentations of Kinky Boots went well. I cried. And I felt like I was in Kung Foo Panda 2, saying "I love you guys" to everybody. X cyn."

Cyndi's last musical theater foray was portraying the character Jenny in a Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera.
