Surviving Doors Collaborating with Rapper Tech N9ne
Henry Diltz/Elektra RecordsAfter recently collaborating with electronic DJ and producer Skrillex on the track "Breakn' a Sweat," the three surviving members of The Doors have teamed up again to record with hip-hop artist Tech N9ne. The veteran rapper revealed in a Twitter message on Thursday that he was in a Los Angeles studio with John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.
Tech N9ne wrote, "Just recorded my 1st song for my new LP & [it's] a chopper track featuring ALL of the members of the doors! WTF? tell me I'm not dreamin!"
Producer Fred Wreck also tweeted about the session, and posted a photo of himself, Densmore and Tech N9ne together. He added that the session was continuing on Friday.
Tech N9ne, meanwhile, confirmed in a tweet on Friday that the work-in-progress also will feature the voice of late Doors frontman Jim Morrison.
In addition, veteran music-industry figure Violet Brown commented on the collaboration in a note on her Facebook page Friday. "TECH N9NE teams up with the legendary DOORS for a ground-breaking & historical recording," she wrote. "THIS SONG IS HOT...I witnessed the masters at work yesterday....THIS IS AMAZING...Day 2 on tap for today!"
Tech N9ne has cited The Doors as one of his major influences, explaining in an interview last year, "I was connected to the Doors, man. I was really into Jim Morrison. And even though he died the year I was born, he inspired me to do something really great."
