Paul McCartney has just premiered two new videos he directed for his single "My Valentine," and he got two Hollywood heavyweights to star in them: Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman.
Paul and his daughter Stella hosted a party in Los Angeles on Friday to celebrate the premiere of the new videos, which were filmed in black-and-white. In one video, Depp acts out the song's lyrics using sign language; in the other, Portman does the same
Paul actually shot three versions of the video: one with only Depp, another featuring just Portman and a third combining footage of the two. The clips starring Depp include a guitar solo which the actor, who's also a musician, recorded live. It replaced the one in the original tune, which was played by Eric Clapton.
The videos boast cinematography from Oscar-winner Wally Pfister, whose résumé includes Inception and The Dark Knight. Stella McCartney came up with the concept for the clips, and also designed the outfit Portman wore.
The screening, which took place at Stella's L.A. clothing store, was attended by a wide variety of celebrities, including Joan Jett, Quincy Jones, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Gwen Stefani, Coldplay singer Chris Martin and his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Fonda, Reese Witherspoon, Orlando Bloom and many others.
"My Valentine" is one of the two songs Paul wrote for his latest studio effort, Kisses on the Bottom, which is made up mostly of old-time standards. Released in February, the album debuted in top five of the Billboard 200 chart.
