Butch Vig Says Kurt Cobain’s Solo Material Was “Just in His Head”

StunvolumeIt looks like Nevermind producer Butch Vig doesn’t think Nirvana’s late frontman Kurt Cobain recorded any previously unreleased material before he died. Earlier this month, Eric Erlandson, co-founder and guitarist of Hole, told Fuse that Cobain had recorded an album’s worth of solo demos, which “would have been his White Album,” before his death in 1994.

However, Vig tells NME.com he doesn’t believe that Cobain recorded anything as a solo artist. "[Cobain] was working on songs, but they were just in his head,” notes Vig. “He might have just played them to Eric."

Vig added that prior to his death, Cobain was focused more on wife Courtney Love’s 1994 album with Hole, Live Through This, than recording his own solo material. “Around that period he only wanted to talk about Courtney's album, I never heard any of his new songs," says Vig.
