Madonna's "MDNA" Debuts at No. 1

Interscope RecordsAfter topping the UK album chart earlier in the week, Madonna has accomplished the same feat on the U.S. chart.

Madonna has scored her eighth number-one album on the Billboard 200 chart with MDNA, which sold 359 thousand copies during its first week of release. It's the most successful debut for an album so far this year.

MDNA is Madonna's fifth consecutive chart-topping studio album.

Earlier this week, Madonna set a record for the most number-one albums in the UK by a solo artist. MDNA is her 12th number-one album there.

Lionel Richie's country music collaboration Tuskegee reached #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, his best debut since 1986. It sold 199 thousand copies.
