Britney Spears' Rep Responds to The Wanted's Claims that She's a Diva; Group Scores Top-10 Debut
Facebook.com/TheWantedA rep for Britney Spears is denying allegations by The Wanted that she's a diva backstage. In an interview conducted during their recent New York City trip, the British boy band claimed that when they opened for Britney in Europe last fall, her bouncers forced them to turn and face the wall when she walked by.
Now, Britney's rep tells MTV, "What's even more interesting than the false allegations they made is the fact that they have claimed to be picked on by two female pop stars in just a few days." That's a reference to another interview in which The Wanted claimed that Christina Aguilera was a "total b**ch" to them when they appeared on The Voice. "Look out, Lady Gaga -- there are still three days left this week," the rep added.
In fairness, in the same interview in which The Wanted related the Britney-is-a-diva story, they also said that she herself was "down to earth." And the group has, in the past, told MTV that Britney is "lovely" and "very, very nice." In fact, The Wanted member Nathan Sykes has a bit of history with Brit. In 2003, years before he joined The Wanted, he took part in a British kids' singing competition called Karaoke Kriminals. Britney was a judge on the show, and when he won, he got to give her a kiss on the cheek.
Talking about the coincidence of The Wanted then going on to open up for Britney years later, Nathan told ABC News Radio, "I never thought in a million years I'd see her again, but it was absolutely awesome and she's still lookin' as hot now as she did back then." When asked if Britney remembered him, Nathan said, "I didn't get to give her a kiss so I don't think she did!"
In other Wanted news, the group's U.S. debut release was wanted by enough fans to debut in the top 10 of the Billboard album chart. The self-titled EP, a compilation of singles from the group's first two non-U.S. albums, plus a few new tracks, enters the chart at #7. According to Billboard, The Wanted's first full studio album to be released worldwide will be out this fall.
