Phillip Phillips First "American Idol" Winner Since David Cook to Go Top 10 with First Single
Michael Becker/FOXIn addition to setting a record for digital download sales among American Idol alumni, Phillip Phillips' single "Home" is also making itself at home in the upper reaches of the chart. The song has debuted at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the first coronation single by an American Idol winner to reach the top 10 since 2008, when David Cook's "Time of My Life" debuted at #3.
To refresh your memory, "No Boundaries," the universally-panned coronation single by season-eight champ Kris Allen, only reached #11 in 2009. Season-nine champ Lee DeWyze limped to #24 the following year with his single, a cover of U2's "Beautiful Day." And last year's champ, Scotty McCreery, also debuted and peaked at #11 with his coronation single, "I Love You This Big."
