Colbie Caillat Talks Touring with Gavin DeGraw, Says Duet Is on Its Way
Facebook.com/GavinDeGrawColbie Caillat and Gavin DeGraw just launched their joint summer tour a few weeks ago, and already they've had some problems: one of their shows in Florida had to be canceled due to Tropical Storm Beryl, and in Pittsburgh, Colbie ran offstage after being attacked by a swarm of huge mayflies. But Colbie, being so laid-back, is taking it all in stride.
She tells ABC News Radio, "This tour has definitely had a rough start to it. There's been some bumps in the road but, you know what? I think it makes it really interesting and fun, and [gives us] good stories to tell."
Colbie wants to make one thing very clear: she's not scared of bugs in general, but those mayflies were enormous. "The whole bug incident was really a terrifying experience!" she laughs. "They were huge. They were literally like big dragonflies. It wasn't like months or little gnats...it was, like, massive creatures I've never seen before!"
Overall, Colbie thinks she and Gavin make the perfect touring combination because musically, they're so sympatico. In fact, the tour came about when the two got together earlier this year to write a song.
"I loved hearing his voice right next to me," Colbie tells ABC News Radio, "and I was like, 'This is fun. We should tour together,' and we both talked to our managers and they worked it out." Colbie says that she and Gavin are planning to finish that song they started very soon so they can, she says, "put it in the set as soon as possible."
While Colbie promises that everyone who comes out and sees her and Gavin on tour this summer will be "listening to good music all night long," there's one thing that won't happen as a result of the two spending all this time together: he's not going to be able to convince her to go on Dancing with the Stars.
"We hung out a couple times when he was on the show and he just said he'd never been that sore in his entire life," Colbie tells ABC News Radio. "Every part of his body hurt, and he was exhausted and lost a bunch of weight doing it." She adds, "I'm not a dancer. My friends are all dancers and I'm just not coordinated at all. It's not my thing, but I enjoy watching dancing."
