Carly Rae Jepsen Hits #1, Dethrones Gotye; Adele Returns to Top Spot

Kevin Mazur/WireImage via ABCIt's been a long time coming, but Carly Rae Jepsen has finally reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her debut single "Call Me Maybe."  In doing so, she dethrone's Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," which has topped the charts for the past eight weeks.

Carly Rae's single, which has been downloaded more than three million times, is the first debut single by a female to reach #1 since Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" back in early 2010.

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber, the guy responsible for Carly Rae's success in the U.S., just dropped from #8 to #10 with "Boyfriend."  His protegee has now done something that he's never done himself: topped the Billboard Hot 100.  The highest he's gotten so far is #2, with "Boyfriend."

On the album side of things, Adele's album 21 has returned to the #1 spot.  That marks the 24th week the disc has been #1 -- the last album to score that many weeks on top was Prince & the Revolution's Purple Rain soundtrack, back in 1984 and 1985.

Since its release 68 weeks ago, 21 has never been out of the Billboard top 10.
