Brownstone's Nicci Gilbert Debuts Fashion Line; Readies for "The Ladies of R&B" TV Show

Nicci Gilbert via TwitterNichole "Nicci" Gilbert came to fame as one of the voices in the group Brownstone.  On Monday, Nicci displayed her fashion skills with the launch of her full-figure fashion collection Curvato, reports the website Singersroom.

Interestingly, Nicci's collection, which just debuted at New York City's Full Figure Fashion Week, was inspired by 18 years of struggle to find acceptance for her curves within the entertainment industry.

"During the height of my music career, I often felt ashamed and embarrassed... [because] many of my peers could choose fashionable items from stylists off the rack," Nicci said, adding that she often had to have clothes custom designed to accommodate her generous frame. That experience inspired Nicci to create a clothing line to uplift other women, to make the big and talls look just as good as the smalls.

Nicci showcased twelve runway looks as part of her first collection.  On hand to give support were her sisters in song, including Faith Evans, Syleena JohnsonKeke Wyatt, and Monifah.  All of the R&B divas will soon appear with Nicci on The Ladies of R&B.  Previously called Diary of a Diva, the TV One reality show is scheduled to premiere on the cable channel this fall.
