Adele Biography Reportedly Reveals Family Drama, Alcohol Abuse

Credit: Lauren DukoffAdele hasn't done that many in-depth interviews in the past year due to her vocal problems, but now a new biography claims to tell the real story of her life, including all the unpleasant parts.

Marc Shapiro is the author of Adele: The Biography, an unauthorized book that'll be hitting stores next month.  He tells In Touch Weekly that Adele's story is "a classic rags to riches," revealing in the book how her dad walked out on their family when she was three.  Shapiro's book also says Adele's dad was an alcoholic whose disease nearly killed him.  "Her relationship with her father is dead and gone," he tells In Touch Weekly.

In the book, Shapiro also claims that Adele was left searching for love she never received from her father, and got herself into relationships in which she'd inevitably end up with her heart broken.  "She loved the drama surrounding boys who treated her badly,” Shapiro says.

That heartbreak, claims Shapiro, led to Adele drinking "more than normal," adding, "Midway through her first tour, she allegedly had a drinking problem."  The book contains excerpts from an interview in which Adele said, "I got so drunk by the time I went on at 2 a.m. I had forgotten the words to my own songs... It was the worst thing ever."

Adele: The Biography is out July 17.
