The Flaming Lips Set Guinness World Record for Live Performances

Skip Bolen/WireImageCongratulations to The Flaming Lips. On Thursday night, the band set a Guinness World Record for the most concerts performed in multiple cities in a 24-hour span.

The Flaming Lips began their adventure in Memphis on Wednesday before continuing with seven other shows in the Mississippi Delta region. The trek ended in New Orleans Thursday night. They were joined along the way by artists including Jackson Browne, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and Neon Trees.

The Flaming Lips took on the record to celebrate MTV's O Music Awards. Frontman Wayne Coyne says in a statement that setting a Guinness World Record "would be one of life's absurd joys."

Jay-Z held the previous mark, with seven performances in 24 hours.
