Carly Rae Jepsen to Adam Levine: Call Me, Maybe?
Kevin Mazur/WireImage via ABCEarlier this year, Jennifer Love Hewitt made headlines when she publicly stated on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she had a crush on Maroon 5's Adam Levine. Now, Carly Rae Jepsen has indicated that she's got her eye on Adam, too -- by inviting him via Twitter to call her, maybe.
It all started a few days ago when Adam tweeted about Carly Rae's hit "Call Me Maybe," joking, "Why does she want him to call her Maybe? Carly is a lovely name." A delighted Carly retweeted Adam's joke, but then rapper Mac Miller, who knows Adam because he appeared on the remix of "Moves Like Jagger," got into the act.
Mac sent a tweet to Adam pretending that the singer didn't understand the song, in which he wrote, "She's saying maybe call her. Like its up to you if you wanna make the call."
Carly retweeted Mac's comment too, and then addressed Adam directly, writing, "Dear @adamlevine Make the call ;) tee-hee." So far, Adam hasn't responded.
By this time, you might think that Carly Rae would be sick of "Call Me Maybe," considering all the viral videos and the number of times she's had to sing the thing over the past year. But Carly told ABC's Nightline recently that it hasn't gotten old for her.
"Not yet at least," says the Canadian singer. "I mean, I don't know if it would. I'm really enjoying myself. It's kinda of been a song that's taken me on this crazy adventure, so it's totally special to me."
Carly thinks that one reason why "Call Me Maybe" is so popular is because the song came so easily for her and her co-writers. "Someone once told me that the good songs kinda write themselves and you don't have anything to do with it," she explains. "And I think that's how we feel about this one. It was just sort of like we were there, but it kinda just happened!"
Carly adds, "It was one of those really joyful processes when you don't think, 'Is this gonna work? Is this gonna be good? Are people gonna like it?' We just did what we wanted to do."
