Elton John Postpones New Album to the Spring to Make Way for Dance Music Project

Photo: Joseph GuayOriginally slated for release this fall and then bumped to February, Elton John's next album, The Diving Board, now will be released in the spring -- specifically, March -- MusicWeek.com reports. The album is already completed, but according to MusicWeek.com, Elton doesn't want it to detract from the release of another project he's got right now.

That project is called Good Morning to the Night, and it's a collaboration he's done with the Australian dance music duo Pnau.  The record will be available this Tuesday.  Pnau has taken elements of John's original recordings and used them to create completely new dance songs. 

Elton tells MusicWeek, "It's really fantastic...I'm so excited with that project that I didn't want the two albums to cannibalize each other so I put my album back to next March."

Explaining why he wanted his classic songs turned into dance tunes, John explained, "I’m a dance fanatic and I love that kind of music, but I'm certainly not technically qualified to do it, but this band Pnau, the two boys from Australia, we gave them all my old master tapes and what they've done...is something that hasn't ever been done before."

He points out that "Good Morning to the Night," the title track of the album, contains elements from nine of his songs, including his classic "Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters."  "It's not a remix.  It's not a mash-up.  It's creating new songs from back catalog, which is incredible," he explains.  "It's so great to hear the album.  It sounds so fresh with what they’ve done with it."
