Colbie Caillat Making Christmas Record to Tide Fans Over While She Takes a Break

Facebook.com/ColbieCaillatColbie Caillat is spending the summer on tour with Gavin DeGraw, but come the fall, fans will be able to enjoy her first-ever Christmas record.  The disc, which isn't titled yet, will feature mostly classic Christmas tunes, as well as some originals inspired by the concept of spending Christmas in warmer climes, like Colbie's favorite place, Hawaii.  "I might name it after one of the [new] songs called Christmas in the Sand," Colbie tells ABC News Radio.

Colbie says her record label has been bugging her for several years to make a Christmas record, and while she's recorded a few one-off Christmas singles, she resisted the idea.  "I was busy touring and I just didn't wanna come home for a week and cram in these songs that I wasn't gonna put enough time and emotion into," she says, explaining her reluctance to do a full-on holiday album.  But now, the time is right.

"I've had six months off, and so I figured, 'You know what? This is a good time to do it and take the time to pick out the songs I want and record it well and put thought into it,'" she says.

Even better is the fact that the Christmas album will now serve as a placeholder while Colbie has some time off. "I guess I'm gonna be taking a possible break from music for a bit. So, it'll be good to have a Christmas record out there," she tells ABC News Radio.

Don't worry: Colbie isn't quitting music or anything -- she says she just needs some time to live life and be inspired again. "I need to just, you know, do something else for a little bit," she explains. "I mean, I'm gonna be working with music. I'm still gonna be writing with people...but I don't wanna just do a whole other pop record and do another couple years of touring. I think I need real life experience again."

Colbie's break may not last as long as you might think. "I could end up putting an acoustic EP out next year," she admits.

So far there's no release date scheduled for the Christmas album, but it will be stores this fall.
