Red Hot Chili Peppers Bassist Flea to Release Solo EP for Charity
Paul Bergen/RedfernsFlea is doing his part to support music education. On Tuesday, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist announced via Twitter that he’ll be releasing a solo EP for charity, titled Helen Burns.
Flea tweeted that the songs on the EP are made up of “obscure, arty, mostly instrumental music,” and that at least one of the tracks will feature vocals from Patti Smith. He added that the music for the EP, which he describes as a “trippy freakout,” was recorded after RHCP finished their Stadium Arcadium tour in 2007.
While Flea says that he will accept “any price you want to pay” to download to the EP, he’ll be offering a autographed vinyl version, which comes with “a piece of a bass string that I have played in concert,” for $75. All proceeds from the EP will benefit the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit music education organization that Flea co-founded in 2001.
Details on ordering the Helen Burns EP will be revealed in the next few days.
