Gavin DeGraw Launches Fan Video Contest, Shares Performance Rituals

Debra Rothenberg/PictureGroupGavin DeGraw is offering fans a chance to perform, well, not with him, but on his Facebook page.

The singer has kicked off an online contest where fans can upload videos of their cover versions of any song from Gavin's current EP Sweeter, with a chance to have their performance posted on Gavin's Facebook page.

Fans can submit videos to TopBlip, which is hosting the contest.  They can also vote for their favorite fan-submitted videos via the site, or on Facebook or Twitter.  Contestants have until August 2 to submit a video or to vote for one, then, the top vote-getting vids will movie into a final round, competing for a some sweet prizes.

A fedora hat signed by the singer is part of the contest swag -- no, it's not the same hat actually worn by Gavin.  Contestants will also be eligible for a pair of tickets to one of Gavin's concerts, a personal tweet from Gavin and more. And, of course, the winning video will be posted to Gavin's and TopBlip's Facebook pages.

Videos have to show you performing the song.  Videos containing slideshows or photo visuals while the song is performed off screen will not be considered.

In other Gavin news, Us Weekly hung out with the singer backstage as he prepared for a gig in Charleston, South Carolina.  In a video on the magazine's website, Gavin shares his showtime rituals which he explains, "are very not-Rock n' Roll.  I like to drink tea.  I enjoy a good cough drop and I yodel."  Maybe you can work a yodel into your video.
