Black Eyed Peas Song Makes Digital Sales History

Kevin Mazur/Wire ImageWhat's the best-selling song in U.S. digital history?  "I Gotta Feeling" you can figure it out.

According to Yahoo!'s Chart Watch blog, The Black Eyed Peas' 2009 smash has just passed the eight million mark in download sales.  That makes it the first song in digital history ever to score that many downloads.

"I Gotta Feeling" has been setting records ever since it was released and ended up staying at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping 14 weeks. It was the first song in digital history to sell six million copies, back in July of 2010, and the first song ever to sell seven million copies, in March of 2011.

And as far back as 2005, The Black Eyed Peas were setting records when it came to digital downloads.  Their hit "Let's Get It Started" was the first track ever to sell half-a-million copies.

By the way, before "I Gotta Feeling" came along, the last song to sell eight million copies or more in the U.S. was Elton John's Princess Diana tribute "Candle in the Wind 1997."  That sold 8.893 million actual, physical CD singles, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
