David Nail began warming up for his shows by singing Adele's hit "Someone Like You." A video of David singing the song has become a hit on YouTube and on CMT's music channels in the last few weeks. Now he's releasing his acoustic version of the song on a new EP, 1979. It comes out through iTunes on July 17 and is named for the year David was born.
The acoustic EP also includes David's latest single, "The Sound of a Million Dreams," and his song "Half Mile Hill." As for the Adele song, David didn't hear "Someone Like You" until it was already a big hit at pop radio.
"I listen to a lot of sports talk radio, so I'm very behind the times on music I guess besides country music just because being in the business you kind of know what's going on," David explains. "We were pulling out of our neighborhood, my wife and I, and the song came on the radio. I had to be honest, I didn't even know who Adele was."
David was captured by the song's honest, emotional lyrics though and just listened to it on repeat. Though his version has gotten a lot of attention in recent weeks, David still hasn't heard what Adele thinks of his version of "Someone Like You."
He says, "I think anytime you do something like that you're scared to death because the last thing you want is to get on your Twitter and see Adele going 'Who in the hell is this redneck singing my song?' But it hasn't happened yet."
David is on the road all this summer. He's set to play O'Fallon, MO, on Tuesday as part of their Heritage and Freedom Festival.
