Mariah Carey to Receive BMI Icon Award in September

Photo by Cindy Ord/Getty ImagesMariah Carey’s status as a music icon will be reaffirmed at an awards ceremony this fall.  Mariah will receive the BMI Icon award at the BMI Urban Awards, scheduled for September 7 in Beverly Hills.

Presented by the music rights management company Broadcast Music, Inc, the award recognizes artists for their “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”

Previous recipients of the award include The Jacksons, James Brown and The Bee Gees.
