When it comes to stars who seem really down-to-earth, Kelly Clarkson's right up there. Even though she's a global pop superstar who's sold millions of albums, she still seems like a regular chick -- and she says that's because she's too lazy to try to be anything else.
Kelly tells ABC News Radio that the reason fans always tell her she reminds them of their sister or their cousin is partly due to American Idol. "I was in their houses, like, every week," she points out. "I think that alone, and just my personality...I've always been very laid back. I'm very much a Texan at heart, like, I don't really put fame on a platter. I don't care." She adds, "I've never been fazed by [fame], and I think fans like the whole fact that I'm not unattainable."
That "unattainable" quality is something that Kelly just doesn't have an interest in cultivating. "There are some stars that are [like that], and that's really pretty and great, but it would just be a lot of work for me to try and do that," she laughs. "I'm very lazy. I don't wanna do that. I'd just rather be myself, and if people like it, that's cool. And if you don't, that's cool."
One way that Kelly displays her personality is through Twitter; she loves being able to speak to her fans directly about anything she wants to discuss. Although at first she thought of the social networking service as "narcissism gone very badly," she soon came around. "I think it's cool that I have a direct line to them," she says. "There's no middleman confusing anything. If somebody wants to ask me something, ask me directly and I can answer it. That's priceless."
Kelly kicked off her tour with The Fray this past Saturday. She and the band will be on the road together through September, and then she'll take off for appearances in Australia and the U.K.
