It was a real whirlwind for Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus to be there when his wife Allison delivered their son Dylan Jay on Friday. Because of health concerns for the baby, Allison had had to undergo a C-section, and Jay admits he went into panic mode. He was in Detroit for a show on the Flatts' Changed tour, and got back to Nashville with an hour to spare before Dylan was born.
Jay only had 20 minutes to hold his newborn baby before heading back to Detroit for the show. He tells People, "My wife was still on the operating table so it was very, very hard to leave, but we had a sold-out show and four acts out with us. I wanted to keep my commitment and my wife gets that."
Jay actually went onstage in his scrubs once he got back to Detroit, and the audience gave him a standing ovation. He got back to Nashville on Monday and has been holding Dylan ever since.
Jay says, "It’s finally sinking in that I’ve got a boy that’s going to carry on our family name and I’m so thrilled to have little Dylan in our lives.”
Jay and Allison's 19-month old daughter Madeline got to meet her big brother in the hospital too. Jay says, "Ali was holding Dylan, and Maddy went, ‘Baby! Baby! Hi, Baby!’ and started waving at him. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek and patted his little hand.”
Jay says that one was one of those moments he'll never forget.
