Drake Says He's the First to "Successfully Rap and Sing"
Universal MotownThere are a few things about Drake that are undeniable, including the fact that he's broken Diddy's record for having the most #1 singles on the Billboard Rap chart. Drizzy's latest claim? That he's the first artist to win big in music by combining singing and rapping.
"There were people who incorporated melody before me," Drake tells The Jewish Chronicle, "but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing."
That claim came under fire on Twitter, with one music lover tweeting, "Hey @Drake, ever hear of Nelly? Bone Thugs[-n-Harmony]? Ja Rule? Lauryn Hill? @50cent? And others? No? Cool." Another person wrote, "Drake is my guy, but Ms. Lauryn Hill mastered the singing/rap thing in the 90's."
Also in the interview with The Jewish Chronicle, Drake, whose mother is Jewish Canadian, talks about performing at a bar mitzvah in New York. "It was very nice, and they were an incredible family to deal with," he says. "I tried to edit out as much swearing as I could, and I loved it, man =- the kids loved it, the parents loved it."
Drake is currently on tour and recently hit the stage in London.
