Sir Elton John to Receive Medal for his Role in the Fall of Communism

Facebook.com/EltonJohnSir Elton John has received numerous awards for his music and his charitable work, and now he's being honored for contributing to the fall of Communism.

According to the British tabloid The Daily Mail,  Elton will be awarded the Medal of Gratefulness by Poland's Solidarity leader Lech Walesa when he returns to Gdansk, Poland for a concert on July 8.  In 1984, John called for political change in Poland and eastern Europe during a concert in the city.  The decision to award Elton the honor was made in 2010, but this week John will collect his medal.

John is performing through October and will end his tour with eleven dates at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas playing his Million Dollar Piano show.
