Jamey Johnson and Friends Pay Tribute to Songwriting Legend Hank Cochran on New Album

James MinchinJamey Johnson pays homage to his songwriting hero Hank Cochran on his new album, Livin' for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran.

George Strait, Ronnie Dunn, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill and Lee Ann Womack are among the stars who team up with Jamey on the new project. Hank Cochran wrote country classics such as Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces" and George Strait's "The Chair" and was a good friend of Jamey's for the last two years of his life.  Cochran died in 2010 at age 74.

After Hank's death, Jamey discovered a new batch of his songs thanks to their mutual friend, Bobby Bare. Jamey says, "All the best stuff was the stuff I didn't know about."

That discovery led Jamey to begin work on a tribute album to Hank, and he let his collaborators pick the songs they wanted to record.  "So for me, it was just as much of a journey as it was for the band or anybody else involved," Jamey explains.

Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello are among the other stars performing with Jamey on Livin' for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran. The album will be released on vinyl first on September 25. It will be released digitally and on CD on October 16.  Here's the track listing:
