New Elvis Presley Box Set Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Historic NYC Concerts
RCA/Legacy RecordingsA new Elvis Presley box set featuring performances from two concerts that the late King of Rock 'n' Roll played at New York City's Madison Square Garden on June 10, 1972, will be released on October 30.
Prince from Another Planet: 40th Anniversary Edition includes two CDs, documenting Presley's afternoon and evening performances, respectively, as well as a DVD boasting fan-shot film from the early show and footage from a press conference the rock legend held the previous day. The concerts were part of a three-day engagement at the Garden that marked Presley's first New York City gigs in more than 15 years.
The CDs featured in Prince from Another Planet originally were issued separately -- the early show as 1997's An Afternoon in the Garden and the later concert as 1972's Elvis as Recorded at Madison Square Garden. Both sets featured a career-spanning selection of memorable Presley hits like "All Shook Up," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Love Me Tender," "Hound Dog" and "Suspicious Minds," as well as a number of interesting covers like "Proud Mary" and "Never Been to Spain."
In related news, the concert footage featured on the Prince from Another Planet DVD will be premiered on August 17 during the annual Elvis Week festivities in Memphis.
