Jordin Sparks Recalls Whitney's Best Advice, Says She's "Scared" of Hollywood Party Scene

Sony PicturesJordin Sparks' movie debut Sparkle is less than a week away -- it opens on the 17th -- and she says while making it, she received some valuable advice from her co-star, Whitney Houston.  While Jordin says she didn't directly ask the late legend for her thoughts on her career, she got them anyway, and for that, she's grateful.

Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jordin says that while filming a scene in the movie, she felt "kind of unsure," and that's when Whitney told her, "Believe in your talent.  Believe in the gift that you have."  Jordin adds, "People say that, anyway, but to hear it coming from somebody I had grown up listening to and really loved and tried to emulate every single note that she sang –- that really stuck."

Jordin also graces the cover of Redbook magazine, and inside, she explains why the Hollywood party scene --- with its drinking, drugs and debauchery --  just isn't for her. 

"Oh, I'm waaay too scared to dabble in anything like that!" she laughs.  "I like the way my heart beats, I like the way I think; I don't need or want anything to change that.  The first thing I think of is, 'What would my grandparents say?'  My mom and dad would kick my butt."
