Garth Brooks performed his hit "The River" at the Teachers Rock concert in Los Angeles Tuesday. The event also featured a performance from Dierks Bentley with proceeds going to charities benefiting teachers and education.
Taking part in the concert was a labor of love for Garth, who can easily rattle off the name of every teacher he ever had.
"I can go all the way through college," Garth tells ABC affiliate KABC. "They're great influences and thank God they are who they are."
Garth encourages kids to really listen to their teachers as the new school year starts, saying, "These teachers, they love you with all their heart. Listen, and don't fight 'em as much as I did."
The Teachers Rock concert will air as part of the Teachers Rock special on CBS airing Friday night at 8 ET. Carrie Underwood is also slated to appear on that special along with Meryl Streep, Jennifer Garner, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Josh Groban.
