Is Little Big Town's Hit Single Driving Increased Pontoon Sales?

Capitol NashvilleLittle Big Town's latest hit, "Pontoon," is racing up the charts as sales figures for pontoons continue on an upswing too.  In fact, the Los Angeles Times says increased pontoon sales are largely responsible for an uptick in overall boat sales in 2011.

Little Big Town's Jimi Westbrook tells ABC News Radio with a laugh, "Pontoon sales are on the rise across the country, and we would like to take credit for that."

Jimi's band mate Phillip Sweet points out that Little Big Town's song was also referenced in the Los Angeles Times article on pontoons.

"They said, 'And there's even been a song spawned from the success of boat sales,'" Phillip says. "'Little Big Town's "Pontoon" has come out, and now it's popular too.' No, it's the other way around L.A. Times. We spawned the pontoon sales."

Though Little Big Town can't really take credit for increased pontoon sales before their song was released, the band is hearing from fans planning to take one of the boats out on the water for the first time.  The members of LBT haven't been on an actual pontoon since they shot the video for the song a few months back though.

Phillip adds, "Our goal is to actually ride on a pontoon on a vacation day this summer before it's over.  We've been so busy touring that we have yet to be on the lake.  I want to get on a pontoon too!"

"Pontoon" is the lead single from Little Big Town's new album, Tornado, coming out September 11.
