Whitesnake's David Coverdale Opens Up..to His Granddaughter

Ash Newell/Whitesnake.comDavid Coverdale of Whitesnake has launched the WhiteSnake TV channel on YouTube, and for his first episode, he's chosen to be interviewed by his granddaughter Georgina. Georgina under took the project to fulfill a school assignment; and David recalls for her his first musical experience.

"I always wanted to play the guitar," he says.  "We didn’t have a lot of money so the first guitar I got was a cheap plastic one with a picture of Elvis Presley.  I would play and practice so hard but it sounded awful all the time -- because nobody told me that you had to tune it.  I would play all of these chords and go, ‘What’s wrong? It sounds awful!’”

Coverdale also talks about how his parents influenced his music and discusses his love of a wide variety of styles including Albanian folk music.  The interview ends with a duet with Georgina featuring David playing the ukulele.

The British rocker is now mixing a live album and a concert DVD from the group's Forevermore world tour in addition to special expanded editions of the Restless Heart CD and his Into the Night solo album.
