Jordin Sparks Says She Wants Her New Album to Sound Like "Early Mariah"

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images via ABCJordin Sparks is gearing up to make her movie debut in Sparkle on August 17, but she hasn't forgotten about her music career.  She's currently working on her third album, and she tells Rolling Stone that she's looking to go "light R&B" for the project.

Describing what she means by that, Jordin tells Rolling Stone, "It's not those slow jam-type things but, I guess, think early Mariah a little bit?  I definitely wanna go that way."  Jordin says that she has "seven or eight" songs for the project right now that she feels are "solid," but notes, "I don't wanna rush...I know my fans are waiting, but I want it to be perfect for them."

Jordin's last album, Battlefield, came out in 2009.  She's not sure when she'll get to finish recording the new one, though, since she's promoting Sparkle and filming another movie as well.
