Katy Perry Ready to Hand MTV's Video of the Year Trophy to BFF Rihanna

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagicKaty Perry's "Wide Awake" is nominated for the prestigious Video of the Year trophy at this year's MTV VMAs, but she'd be happy to hand the trophy over to someone else: her BFF, Rihanna.

Katy said on Twitter, "I think Ri should get video of the year for we found love. That's the level. ."

Both videos are pretty over-the-top, but in different ways: Katy's is a special effects-filled fairytale fantasy, while Rihanna's is a gritty look at a toxic relationship that includes some controversial scenes of drug use and sexual situations.  Their competition also includes Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" and the Drake/Rihanna collaboration "Take Care."

Katy didn't say that whether or not she plans on storming the stage, a la Kanye West,  if Rihanna doesn't win, and declaring "We Found Love" to be "one of the best videos of all time."

Some of Katy's fans responded to her posting by insisting that she does, indeed, deserve the trophy for "Wide Awake," while others were impressed by her altruism.  "Talk about real friendship," one wrote.
