John Mayer Will Return to the Stage Friday Night, but Not to Sing
Paul Morigi/WireImageThanks to his ongoing voice problems, it's been a while since John Mayer performed in concert in front of a big live audience. In fact, at the end of August, he said he would be "silent for the next few months" due to his latest round of vocal cord surgery. Tonight and tomorrow, he'll finally return to the stage...but he won't be singing.
John will be in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday to perform at the Southern Ground Music & Food Festival, a multi-artist event that will feature performances by Sheryl Crow, Los Lonely Boys, rock legend Gregg Allman and a variety of country stars. He'll be sitting in with the Grammy-winning country group Zac Brown Band, but his only role will be to play guitar. John's rep told USA Today, "He is still recovering from the recent procedure on his vocal cords and will be on vocal rest for awhile."
John did something similar last weekend on Saturday Night Live, when he played guitar for the show's musical guest, Frank Ocean, but didn't step up to the mic himself.
