Sculpture Honoring Carlos Santana to Be Unveiled in Las Vegas Next Week to Mark House of Blues' 20th Anniversary
In celebration of the House of Blues' 20th anniversary, a giant sculpture paying tribute to Carlos Santana and the significance of the guitar in American pop culture will be unveiled this Wednesday at the club's Las Vegas location at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Santana will be on hand for the event, as will the sculptor of the statue, Dale Evers.
"The sculpture truly embodies the magnificence that is Carlos Santana," says Evers in a statement. "It is an understatement to say I am honored and greatly appreciative for this grand moment in my life."
To begin the ceremony, music students from Las Vegas' Fremont Middle School will give a mariachi performance. In conjunction with the event, the school's music program will be presented with guitars from the International House of Blues Foundation. The instruments were donated to the charity by the Hermes Music Foundation with cooperation from Santana's Milagro Foundation.
The sculpture, titled "Wings of Legend," will be on permanent display at the House of Blues Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, as previously reported, Carlos will begin his latest series of concerts at the club on January 19 as part of his ongoing Las Vegas residency.
