Heart Releases Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin Tribute Performance as Digital Single

Jeffrey R. Staab/CBSHeart's moving live version of "Stairway to Heaven," which served as the finale of the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Led Zeppelin, has been released as a digital single, on sale for 99 cents via iTunes.  The performance, which in addition to Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, featured drummer Jason Bonham, an orchestra and a choir, visibly brought tears to Zeppelin singer Robert Plant's eyes.  The event took place on December 3 in Washington, D.C., and aired nine days later on CBS.

In response to an outpouring of positive reactions following Heart's performance, Ann Wilson recently posted a message online about her experience at the gala.

"It was our honor to be asked to do it before an audience like that," she wrote.  "My main goal though was to please Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones...especially Plant, since all these many years he has taught me so much about singing from the soul and has given me such pleasure in his lyrics.  What a high that night was.  Never to be forgotten!"

All proceeds raised by the single will benefit the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Check out a video of the performance on YouTube.
