President Obama's second Inauguration didn't feature as many huge music stars as did his first, but James Taylor was among the three big names who were on hand to sing America's greatest hits at the event.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was the first musician to perform during the ceremony. Bareheaded and wearing a coat, sweater, shirt and tie, the singer/songwriter accompanied himself on acoustic guitar and sang a brief, simple version of "America the Beautiful."
Taylor was followed by former American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson. The Grammy-winning superstar turned in a masterful performance of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." Closing the historic gathering was Beyonce, who delivered a note-perfect rendition of the national anthem.
Taylor is a longtime supporter of Obama who, back in September, performed during the finale of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. He also took part in numerous other campaign events leading up to the president's reelection in November.
