Miguel Talks About "Kaleidoscope Dream's" "Sex-Driven Moments"

Kevin Mazur/WireImage via ABCIf you picked up Miguel's Grammy Award-nominated album Kaleidoscope Dream, then you know his lyrics can get pretty racy.  The steamy material got the approval of critics, but was Miguel embarrassed to play it for his family?

"Not at all," he tells People. "There are very sex-driven moments on the album, but it's not overbearing. I think it's balanced with other elements. Even though sex is a part of my life, it's important to highlight the other 95 percent."

A portion of that "95 percent" is love -- which Miguel also sings about.  He tells People that his song "Adorn" was inspired by his girlfriend, model and artist Nazanin Mandi. "I had been on a long trip and was anxious to see her.  That's where the song began, with that emotion while I was on the plane.  I don't remember how I got from 'These lips can't wait to taste your skin' to the end of the song, but when I listened to it, I thought, 'This is special.'"

On Grammy night, Miguel will be joined by Nazanin at the awards ceremony.  She's "been there with me for a large chunk of this tremendous journey--seven years," Miguel says.

With five Grammy nods, Miguel has plenty to look forward to. "The last awards show I was at was the Soul Train Awards [in November], and sitting across from Bill Withers, finding out that he knew my music -- even song titles -- it's those moments I look forward to."  He's also pretty psyched about "running into friends like Usher, Wale, Big Sean and 2 Chainz."

This year's Grammy Awards ceremony takes place February 10 in Los Angeles.  The show will be broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. E.T.
