The Who's Pete Townshend Set to Pick Up Les Paul Award at 2013 TEC Awards Tonight

Photo: Ross HalfinThe Who's Pete Townshend will be in Anaheim, California, tonight to receive the Les Paul Award at the 28th annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards.  The honor, named after the late electric guitar and multi-track recording pioneer, recognizes people or institutions that have made a significant impact on the world of audio production and technology.

Townshend will be presented with the honor by his friend Martin Lewis, co-creator of the Secret Policeman's Ball benefit concerts for the Amnesty International organization, as well as by Les Paul's son, Russ.  Previous winners include Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Lindsey Buckingham, Neil Young and The Band's Robbie Robertson.

This year's TEC Awards will be hosted by founding Lovin' Spoonful singer John Sebastian.  The event, which recognizes "outstanding achievement in audio technology and production," traditionally is held during the popular NAMM music-equipment trade show.

Springsteen is up for TEC Awards in two categories.  His 2012 Wrecking Ball album is nominated for the Record Production/Album prize, while a song from the release, "We Take Care of Our Own," is in the running for the Record Production/Single award.

The Foo Fighters also are competing for a pair of honors.  Their Wasting Light collection will vie for the Record Production/Album trophy, while the band's tour in support of that release is a nominee for the Tour Sound Production trophy.  Metallica's "2012 European Black Album" trek also scored a nod for the latter honor.
