Cissy Houston Describes the Moment She Learned of Whitney's Death

Photo by Jeremy DanielIn less than a month, Whitney Houston fans will mark the one-year anniversary of her passing.  In a sneak-peek of Monday's installment of Oprah's Next Chapter, posted by E!, Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, describes the moment she learned of her daughter's death, February 11, 2012.

"My son called me and he was screaming, 'Mom, Mommy,'" Cissy tells Oprah Winfrey.  "I said, 'What is wrong? What's wrong?'"  Her son responded, "'Nippy. Nippy,'" referring to his sister by the family's nickname for her.

Cissy tells Oprah, "I said, 'Is she dead?' And he said, 'Yeah, Mommy, she's dead.' I don't remember too much else after that."  In her new book, Remembering Whitney, Cissy details that painful day.  She tells Oprah that she was alone when she got that call, later learning that Whitney had been discovered dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.  The singer was 48.

Whitney's brother Michael Houston joins his mother on Oprah's Next Chapter, and reveals whether he was the person responsible for introducing his sister to drugs.  The show airs on OWN, Monday at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT.
