U2 Guitarist The Edge's Music Rising Charity Launches Hurricane Sandy Relief Program

Photo: Shahar AzranMusic Rising, the relief organization co-founded in 2005 by U2 guitarist The Edge to help rebuild music programs affected by Hurricane Katrina, has announced that it's expanding its mission to aid in-need areas throughout the U.S.  The new initiative has launched with a $250,000 donation to aid school programs in the New York/New Jersey area that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Music Rising's initial mission resulted in the distribution of thousands of instruments to schools, churches and community programs, as well as to individual musicians, in the southern Gulf region following the devastation of Katrina.  The charity also partnered with New Orleans' Tulane University to establish a curriculum that focuses on the musical heritage of the area.

Music Rising also provided financial aid to musicians in Nashville, including the Nashville Symphony, after the severe flood that hit the city in 2010.
