Amazon.co.uk, the British version of the online retailer, celebrates its 15th anniversary this week, and to mark the occasion, it's released a slew of data detailing which products are among the best-sellers of all time on the site. Quite a few top music artists figure into those best-sellers lists, including Adele.
Adele is Amazon.co.uk's best-selling music artist overall of all time, while her album 21 is the best-selling album ever on the site. Her first album, 19, is the site's second-biggest selling album of all time. The site's other best-selling artists are, in descending order: Coldplay, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Michael Buble, Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, Muse, and Michael Jackson.
When it comes to the site's best-selling singles of all time, Adele comes in at #2 with "Skyfall," followed by PSY's "Gangnam Style," Adele's "Someone Like You," and "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas. The #1 best-selling single of all time on the site is "Killing in the Name," by the rabble-rousing rap-rock alternative group Rage Against the Machine. Why? Because in 2009, a Facebook campaign was started to get the profanity-laden track, which was originally released in 1992, to #1 in order to block the single from the latest X Factor winner from doing so. The campaign was successful, with the song topping the charts.
Meanwhile, One Direction have earned the title of the fastest-selling album of all time on the site: it's their upcoming disc, Midnight Memories, which isn't even out until next month.
