After performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April, Billy Joel announced several additional tour dates, but they were all in the U.K. Now, the Piano Man is actually going to be playing us a song on his home turf. A surprise show has been announced for Wednesday night at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, in Long Island, New York.
A portion of the proceeds from the show -- titled simply Billy Joel in Concert -- will benefit Long Island Cares -- The Harry Chapin Food Bank. The late singer/songwriter Harry Chapin, known for hits like "Cat's in the Cradle" and "Taxi," was a huge supporter of the arts on Long Island, and a tireless crusader against hunger, co-founding the charitable organization World Hunger Year. Chapin died in 1981.
Tickets go on sale at noon today via Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000. There's a two-ticket limit per person.
Billy's other concerts are scheduled for October 29 in Manchester, England; November 1 in Dublin, Ireland; November 5 in London; and November 8 in Birmingham, England.
