Todd Rundgren will receive the Les Paul Award at the 29th annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards, scheduled to take place on January 24 in Anaheim, California. The honor, named after the late electric-guitar and multi-track recording pioneer, recognizes people or institutions that have made a significant impact on the world of audio production and technology.
In addition to his successful career as a recording artist, the multitalented Rundgren has made his mark as an in-demand producer and an innovator of online and digital music technology and marketing. He will be presented with the honor by Paul's son, Russ, on behalf of the award's sponsor, the Les Paul Foundation. Previous Les Paul Award recipients include Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen, Brian Wilson, Neil Young, Peter Gabriel and Sting.
The upcoming TEC Awards also will honor renowned session drummer Hal Blaine of the famed "Wrecking Crew" for his career achievements. The musician appears on more than 5,000 records, movie scores and television jingles and film scores, including hit tunes by Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys and many others.
The TEC Awards recognize "outstanding achievement in audio technology and production." The event will be held at the Anaheim Hilton during the second day of the popular NAMM music-equipment trade show.
