Almost 50 years after Paul McCartney first sang "Baby, you can drive my car," the ex-Beatles star will give some lucky fans the chance to give his upcoming solo album, NEW, a test drive of sorts. Special listening events have been scheduled for this Sunday, October 6, in the Los Angeles area and in New York City where attendees will have the opportunity to listen to all of NEW while sitting in a car.
The L.A.-area event will take place at the Vineland Drive-In in City of Industry, California, and people in the first 400 automobiles that arrive at the venue will be able to preview the album through their radios via the theater's FM transmitter. The drive-in parking lot will open at 6 p.m. PT and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. All attendees will receive a commemorative poster.
As for New York, two separate listening sessions will be held an hour apart -- at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET, respectively -- at the Open Road VW/Audi dealership at 802 11th Avenue. The first 100 fans to show up at the dealership will admitted, and will get to hear the album in specially designed NEW-themed cars parked on the roof of the building.
Regarding the concept behind the NEW preview events, McCartney says, "I love listening to music in the car…It's like listening with a huge pair of headphones! You're in there and the sound is wrapped around you…It's great."
NEW will be released on October 15.
