Keith Urban Talks Sobriety and Maintaining Balance with His Family in "People Country"

Capitol NashvilleKeith Urban has been sober seven years now, and he can't imagine living any other way. In the new issue of People Country, Keith says, "It’s one of the greatest blessings in my life because of how destructive I was.  My own personal sobriety has given me a life I never imagined in my wildest dreams… Life now is incredibly more calm and way more simple.”

Keith is able to really show up for his wife, Nicole Kidman, and their two young daughters as well. He's come to realize that showing up every day for his family is crucial, thanks to a saying he and Nic have adopted -- "Balance is never achieved; it's just maintained."

“I’m a guy, so I’m not used to having to maintain anything," Keith admits.  "I’m used to achieving something, and good, that’s done, move on to the next thing.  No, no, this marriage, this family, it’s a garden.  It’s not fixed and then you move on; it’s maintained on a daily basis."

For more on Keith's family life, check out the December issue of People Country, on stands Friday.
