Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell is co-organizing a second annual holiday benefit event in Los Angeles to help support causes that are near and dear to his heart. The 2014 edition of the Merry Minstrel Musical Circus: A Holiday Gathering and Goodwill Jamathon will take place at the famed Troubadour club on December 20 and 21, and will raise money for Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund and Manual Arts High School.
The Merry Minstrel Musical Circus was created by Campbell and his co-organizer, singer/songwriter Jonathan Wilson. They will be joined at the shows by an as-yet-unannounced lineup of well-known musicians. Last year's event was a one-off show that included performances by Jackson Browne, Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Bob Weir, ex-Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench.
Tickets for the December 20 concert are already sold out, while tickets for the December 21 show will be available for purchase Monday at noon PT at Troubadour.com.
The Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund is a non-profit organization that focuses on helping aging and neglected pets in need of shelter and medical care. Campbell is a member of the charity's board of directors, as is his wife, Marcie, who also is the fund's co-president. Manual Arts High School is an L.A.-based facility that has more than three hundred students enrolled in its music programs and needs financial aid to buy new woodwinds and brass instruments.
