Gavin DeGraw Going from Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade to the Dinner Table

GavinDegraw.comGavin DeGraw is just one of the many stars who'll be performing at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, and he says one of his favorite memories of the parade isn't watching it on TV, or even watching it in person. For him, it was the time he got to see all the balloons being inflated in person in the wee hours of Thanksgiving Day morning.

"I was living in Manhattan years ago and I stayed out all night with friends and we went and we watched everybody preparing their balloons and their floats in the early morning before the actual parade," Gavin tells ABC News Radio. "That was a really fascinating and cool experience to be able to go see the behind-the-scenes bit of it...the preparation element of it."  His all-time favorite balloon?  Woody Woodpecker.

This year, Gavin will be taking part in the parade for the second time in his career: this time, he'll be singing "Make a Move," the title track of his new album.  Afterwards, he says he plans to rush home for Thanksgiving dinner, which is several states away.  "After I hop off my float and after I do my song, I'm gonna hop on a flight and head to Nashville, and hopefully I'll be at the dinner table in time to eat with everybody," he tells ABC News Radio.

And when he gets to Nashville, he knows what he's looking forward to seeing on the dinner table. "I like stuffing," he says, "I like a very, very traditional Thanksgiving dinner and I think it's a really special time of year to enjoy gluttony!"

Of course, in addition to feeding his face, Gavin will be giving thanks for all the blessings in his life.  "My family, and the idea of being able to live your dreams," he says, after being asked what he's most thankful for this year.  "It's a very special thing: being able to look back at what you wanted to do with your life when you're a kid and see it's actually become a reality." Other acts performing at this year's parade include the Goo Goo Dolls, Florida Georgia Line, Fall Out Boy, X Factor stars Fifth Harmony and young breakout stars Ariana Grande and Austin Mahone.  In addition, eighties icons Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and holiday music favorites Mannheim Steamroller are on the bill.

All the fun gets underway Thursday, November 28, when the 87th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade airs live on NBC.
